The Shenpen team recently travelled to Bidur in Nuwakot District to provide emergency assistance to families affected by the recent floods in Nepal.
Bidur is one of the last areas currently reachable by road. During our visit, rescue operations were still underway for people stranded in flood-affected areas, and our team witnessed firsthand the difficult situation facing local communities.
Supporting displaced families in Trishuli Bazaar
The team visited the holding centre at Shree Bhairum Higher Secondary School in Trishuli Bazaar, where more than 300 people have been staying after their homes were swept away by the flood.
Families displaced by the disaster are currently living together at the school. Sahanubhuti Nepal was providing warm meals to residents, while Shenpen contributed essential food supplies including rice, dal, oil, soya chunks, and other food items.
We also distributed clothes donated by people in Kathmandu, along with tents and sleeping bags for families in need.
Our team visited the main bazaar area as well, where the extent of the destruction caused by the flood was clearly visible. Seeing the damage and its impact on the community firsthand was heartbreaking.
Continuing our relief efforts
Across the affected areas, local communities, volunteers, organizations, and individuals are helping in whatever ways they can. Food, medicine, and other relief materials are being collected and distributed to communities that can currently be reached.
Shenpen is focusing on providing immediate assistance to families in accessible areas where help is most needed. As conditions change and access to more affected areas becomes possible, our team will continue to visit affected communities, listen to their needs, and provide further support according to the situation on the ground.
